Melanin converts this light into heat, which is then transmitted to the hair follicle, destroying it and preventing the growth of new hair. This method is effective on hairs that are still actively growing and connected to the follicle. Keep in mind that not all our hair is in this growth phase, which is why multiple sessions are usually needed. This technique is known as ‘Selective Photo thermolysis’.

How Many Sessions Needed ?

Our Permanent Hair Reduction treatment can only work on hair during its growth stage. So, typically, you’ll need to complete a series of 6 to 10 sessions with at least 8 weeks between each session initially. Hair grows in cycles, with follicles going through rest and growth phases. The heat from the diode laser can only destroy follicles with hair during the growth phase. Those in the rest phase will need to enter the growth phase to be effectively treated. The timing and length of these cycles depend on various factors like where the hair is, how dense it is, its thickness, your ethnicity, hormones, and age. Our therapist will create a customized plan for you during your consultation.

What Skin Types Can Be Treated with Laser?

The diode laser is safe and effective for all skin types.

Is It Permanent?

Yes, once a hair follicle is successfully destroyed, it can’t grow hair again. However, we all have dormant hair follicles that could become active later in life. This means new hair can grow, so we recommend a yearly top-up session to keep any newly stimulated follicles in check.

Is It Painful?

Pain perception varies from person to person and depends on your skin type, which contains a lot of pigment. Most people describe the sensation as similar to tiny pinpricks.

Is it Effective on All Hair Colors?

Unfortunately, laser works best on brown to dark hair. It’s not effective on blonde or grey hair because there’s not enough pigment for the laser to target.
